Gustav Gaudernack (1865-1914) was born in Bohemia, and studied at the School of Art and Craft in Vienna. He moved to Kristiania (Oslo), Norway, in 1891, where he started working as a designer for the manufactory Christiania Glasmagasin. Between 1892 and 1910 he was the top designer for goldsmith David-Andersen. In 1910 he established his own company, “Gustav Gaudernack’s Factory for Silver, Filigree and Enamel Wares”. He is considered the most significant art nouveau goldsmith in Norway.

Gerhard Munthe (1849-1929). Painter and designer. Munthes decorative works includes woven tapestries, furiture and room decorations. His motives were often inspired by old norse legends and mythology.

Frida Hansen (1855-1931). Textile artist. Hansen used ancient Nordic weaving techniques to create panels of floral design and tapestries. She established the Norwegian Weaving Society in Kristiania (Oslo) in 1897. Her awareness of the newest European art combined with her intense knowledge of the medium, lent her designs a great sophistication.

Hagbarth Schytte-Berg (1860-1944). Architect. Studied at Polytechnische Hochschule in Hannover and Königlich Technische Hochschule in Berlin. He brought new ideas to Norwegian architecture around 1900. His work in Aalesund, which was rebuilt after a city fire in 1904, is both characteristic of that period in European architectural history, as well as the expression of an individual talent.

Valentin Kielland (1866-1944). Sculptor, designer and painter. Kielland studied in Paris in the 1890s, before returning to Norway where he started designing art nouveau furniture. In his work he wanted to unite sculpture, painting and furniture design. He also designed silverware and ceramics.

Thorolf Holmboe (1866-1935). Painter and illustrator. He was among the most influential and productive art nouveau artists in Norway between 1890 and 1900, designing covers for books and magazines, silverware, porcelain, textile, posters and stamps, as well as painting. His motives were mainly inspired by the nature in northern Norway.
