Two presentations on the Partage Plus project in Prague

In October and November the Uměleckoprůmyslové museum v Praze (UPM) gave two presentations on the topic of Art Nouveau and Jugendstil decorative arts. The lectures were intended to inform cultural heritage professionals, scholars, students, artists, museum visitors and colleagues about the mission of the Partage Plus project and Europeana

The presentation held in October introduced the audience to the theme of Art Nouveau, its development, context and ideological background. A brief survey on the Czech participation at the World exhibition in Paris in 1900 completed this event.

Additionally, during the second lecture dedicated to the comparison of Art Nouveau/ Jugendstil jewellery with jewellery produced in the Belle Epoque, many problematic or unexpected aspects of the turn-of-the-century jewellery production were discussed. The comparative approach showed to the audience the interconnection between Art Nouveau jewellery and the rest of the simultaneous jewellery production; both of them were somehow dependent on historical influences, such as late 19th century historicism and naturalism.
