MNAC: Rafael Masó, from an auction to Europeana
It was a lucky coincidence that just recently a coat-rack-cum-umbrella-stand by the artist Rafael Masó, who produced part of his work under the influence of Modernisme, was sold at auction. The Fundació Rafael Masó in Girona purchased this interesting object and decided to give it to the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, on a long-term loan. On Tuesday, July 16 the coat rack-umbrella stand was grandly unveiled. Attending the event to formalise and celebrate the loan were - amongst others - Daniel Giralt Miracle (Critic and Art Historian), Miquel Roca (President of the Board of the Museum), Jordi Falgàs (Director of the Rafael Masó Fundation), Carles Puigdemont (Mayor of Girona), Pepe Serra (Director of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya) and Mariàngels Fondevila (Curator of Modern Art in the MNAC).
As soon as the collaboration with the Fundació Rafael Masó started, the MNAC was happy to inform them about the Partage Plus project and the importance of including this work into the selection of Art Nouveau objects digitized in a two-year period. The foundation is delighted with the idea and gave its consent. The very unique coat rack-umbrella stand by Masó has already become a part of the MNAC`s Modern Art collection.
